This book is a fantastic read for future aviators, aviation professionals, and enthusiasts alike!H.C. Smith has a unique gift of explaining a complex topic in the most comprehensible way possible. The author assumes no previous knowledge about the subject of Aerodynamics from the reader. He introduces each topic by discussing the fundamentals first and then goes on to discuss the topic in increasing detail. Comprehensive matters become clear, through “piece by piece†explanation.As a pilot, I have previously studied Aerodynamics. Doing advanced aviation training, I chose this book to get a deeper understanding. It not only significantly increased my “book†knowledge about Aerodynamics, yet also fostered a deep understanding. As an extra, it was simply pleasurable to read.I can recommend this excellent book to anybody, who is interested in Aerodynamics to any extent. Within only 300 pages, a remarkable level of complexity is discussed in a very comprehensible manner.It is books like these, that illustrate pilots the effects of their actions, and contribute to safer skies!
This is a really great introductory book with plenty of visuals, and some tough concepts easily explained.
I attended Penn State and studied aerodynamics under Dr. Smith. I remember he has a fantastic ability to explain what is the most complex topics in a easy to follow logical manner. He uses the same manner in the writing of his book. Great reference for the aspiring aeronautical engineer or pilot!
This is a great book. If you have a good grasp of algebra you can grasp most key facts about aerodynamics. Most other texts require a level of comfort with differential equations that I don't have. This is my second copy as my first copy went missing.
I read this book for research that I am doing at school. In this book the author carefully and slowly explains the principles of aerodynamics. His approach is perfect for those of us who are new to the subject.The layout of the book makes sense. The book includes many examples along with thorough explanations of these examples. (He also gives many interesting anecdotal comments.) Additionally, the author's handling of the material is simple, but not so basic that one cannot get a full understanding of aerodynamic forces acting on an airplane and on the structures than comprise the vehicle.This book is a very useful reference for understanding aerodynamic forces and how these forces can be determined and predicted.
The best basic introduction to aerodyanics that has ever been published that I am aware of. Very clear and well written and illustrated. I love this book. You will not need advance mathematics to follow along, although some college physics or engineering will certainly be helpful.

I am an aeronautic engineer student and this help me as much as the teacher, it complement and help to understand more the subjects. It is very helpful for aerodynamics classes.
